Balance Re-education Training
Good balance is imperative for movement, as well as coordination and proprioception (perception of the movement and position of the body). Without these, mobilization is highly dysfunctional.
When problems with balance occur, patients can receive help at Warsaw Chiropractic by receiving balance re-education training. This is also referred to as neuromuscular re-education. This technique improves balance and coordination by breaking adhesions that are binding muscles and preventing nerves from functioning correctly.
Patients who have degenerative conditions (arthritis, cerebral palsy) or have had muscle tears or fractures can benefit from neuromuscular re-education to improve balance, strength, and flexibility. Patients of all ages can benefit from this course of treatment, no matter their level of function or past medical history.
Balance re-education training consists of targeted strengthening exercises, stretching activities, and therapeutic massage. Strengthening and stretching increase flexibility and range of motion, while massage enhances joint and muscle functions and increase circulation. The combined effects of these therapies lead to healing in dysfunctional areas of the body that led to the imbalance.
Gait issues can be addressed with re-education training to improve body mechanics and address safety issues. Assistive devices will be discussed, and therapy will address different obstacles or terrains the patient would most likely encounter in their daily lives.
