Decompression Therapy

Back pain is widely common in most adults. Daily activities and responsibilities are hard on the spine, not to mention sports and other hobbies that cause stress on the back.

The most common relief for back pain is pain medication, but the side effects are not desirable. Chiropractic care can provide pain relief without taking pills or worse, having surgery (although some back injuries can only be resolved with surgery).

Decompression therapy is providing great relief to patients with back pain without undesirable side effects. Motorized traction is used to gently stretch the spine and take the pressure off the vertebrae and nerves along the spine. The release of tension may even allow herniated or bulging discs to move back into their natural place. Healing is encouraged and enhanced by restoring oxygen and nutrients to the spine.

Decompression therapy can be used for conditions other than back pain – neck pain, sciatica, injured nerve roots, and degenerative disc disease, to name a few. Studies have shown favorable results using decompression therapy for pain relief.

A patient’s diagnosis and severity of symptoms will dictate the length of treatment. Most patients start to see results in six to eight visits. Older patients (over 55) may need more sessions. Decompression takes approximately 30 minutes and can cause some patients to relax enough to fall asleep.
